Medicinal Cannabis

Our recommendations are compliant with state law, giving you legal protection to grow and use cannabis for your own personal medicinal use.

Cannabis is an effective, non-toxic alternative for a wide range of chronic conditions. If you have a qualifiying condition as defined in RCW 69.51A.010 cannabis may help. If you are interested in obtaining a recommendation for the use of medicinal cannabis, please first refer to the list of qualifying conditions. This list changes periodically as new conditions are added.

Conditions not specifically listed can qualify if the symptoms of the disease cause “intractable pain, limited for the purpose of this chapter to mean pain unrelieved by standard medical treatments and medications”, provided you show that standard treatments and medications have failed, or when the risks of taking other medications outweigh the benefits.  You must have medical records or chart notes from at least 1 other physician, confirming your diagnosis.  The more documentation you have, the better.

Qualifying conditions include:

- Cancer, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), multiple sclerosis, epilepsy or other seizure disorder, or spasticity disorders; or

- Intractable pain, limited for the purpose of this chapter to mean pain unrelieved by standard medical treatments and medications; or

- Glaucoma, either acute or chronic, meaning increased intraocular pressure unrelieved by standard treatments and medications; or

- Crohn’s disease with debilitating symptoms unrelieved by standard treatments or medications; or

- Hepatitis C with debilitating nausea or intractable pain unrelieved by standard treatments or medications; or

- Diseases, including anorexia, which result in nausea, vomiting, wasting, appetite loss, cramping, seizures, muscle spasms, or spasticity, when these symptoms are unrelieved by standard treatments or medications; or

- Any other medical condition duly approved by the Washington state medical quality assurance commission in consultation with the board of osteopathic medicine and surgery as directed in this chapter. (This means any other documented condition unrelieved by other forms of treatment, for which the physician feels cannabis could be effective.)
